Why choose SPEEDI Niche over traditional methods?

SPEEDI Niche

1. TIME

A traditonal shower niche will take on average 3-6 hours of time to complete when done correctly.  Most of that time is spent on layout and waterproofing. SPEEDI Niche installs in under 3o minutes with a tile back application, and little waterproofing preparation is necessary.

2.WATERPROOF

Any tile professional can attest that a shower niche installed in any wet location, especially steam rooms, is a concern.  Nobody wants a callback.  Waterproofing membranes are expensive, and substrates are getting more lightweight than ever; leaving room for more water to wick up through open joints and surfaces hidden beneath the bond coat of the tile.  There are simply so many corners to waterproof, that usually the entire area must be addressed with expensive membranes/coatings. This adds many more steps to the process.  SPEEDI Niche is 100% waterproof, and since the integral flange rests over the wall surface, it is impossible for water to penetrate through the corners of the wall surface where bond coats fail the most.

3. SHELVES

How do you install a shelf in a traditional niche?  What to use? Glass should be tempered (good luck finding the right size) and there is no good practice to install it in a waterproof manner without sacrificing style of a seamless appearance.  You could frame a separate niche to act as a shelf, or even use a prefab polymer niche with a shelf that can be tiled.  That would work with the exception that it is a tile setter's nightmare for cutting and creating seamless corners since the shelf just became very thick.  SPEEDI Niche has an integrated 1/2" pre-pitched shelf that can be placed at any location, making the amount of shelves limitless by not being restricted to the size of the format tile.

4. TILE CAN BE RESTRICTING

Use the above photo on the left as an example.  The installer could not keep the same diagonal format because of the shelf and the size of the opening, making the niche look off-center.  The amount of cuts around the perimeter of the niche leaves a rough appearance against the wide grout line of the bullnose.  SPEEDI Niche's flange allows flexibility for the installer to make do with the opening he/she has to work with instead of the size of the tile while omitting the need for other materials to contrast with the design such as bullnose, pencils, or extrusions.
